Course (3 credits/ course) Description
Contemporary Issues in Curriculum Theory and Practice This course will prepare candidates to engage in a detailed investigation of contemporary issues and debates in curriculum theory and practice in different national jurisdictions. It will enable the candidate to critically analyse and reflect upon major concerns relating to local and international developments in curriculum and how these affect localised practices in education today and in the future. The focus will be on identifying the key curriculum concerns of policy makers and practitioners locally and internationally and evaluating the approaches being employed to address these concerns.
International Theory and Perspectives in Curriculum This course will prepare candidates to engage in systematic enquiry of the theory and perspectives in curriculum from an international perspective. It will enable candidates to critically reflect upon major theoretical frameworks in curriculum in different national contexts and the implications for local curriculum issues and practices in an Asian/Chinese context. The focus will be to identify major theories and perspectives on curriculum and to evaluate the ways in which these theories have influenced policy and practice in local and international contexts.
Literature Review on Curriculum Studies The course aims to develop the critical analytic skills of the participants in the process of searching and organising ideas in curriculum studies. The participants will develop data management skills and theoretical knowledge through searching, updating, noting, rethinking and evaluating literature when they start the inquiry into the realm of curriculum studies. They will develop initial assumptions on identified areas of research and the competence in writing up literature review in curriculum studies which is important to the growth of researchers.
