FEHD President's Award Success

2020-06-03

FEHD swept the board at the President’s Awards for Outstanding Performance in Teaching, Research, Knowledge Transfer and Administrative Services 2019/20.

Dr Sammy Hui won the Individual Award for his outstanding performance in teaching. By placing students at the heart of his classes, he developed innovative, norm-breaking practices to engage students and ensure the quality of his taught programmes.

For research, Dr Liman Li and Dr Jesus Alfonso Daep Datu won the Early Career Research Excellence Award. As a cultural psychologist, Dr Li’s research on cultural change examines how socio-economic development can be related to the psychological and behavioural tendencies across different groups over time. Another awardee, Dr Datu, is a well-being scientist. “It is important to explore specific well-being factors and interventions that mitigate the undesirable consequences of the recent health crisis and other sociopolitical issues,” he said.

Two teams formed with FEHD members won the outstanding performance in Knowledge Transfer.  Professor Kevin Chung and Dr Ian Lam led a project team “3Es: Early Prevention, Early Identification, and Early Intervention: A School-Based Support Model of Social-Emotional Development for Kindergarten Children.” The team worked with 24 kindergartens to implement the programme, benefiting over 1,400 children and their parents, and teachers.

“How research can make a real difference to the lives of children and families and teachers—this is a question that all academics have to think about.” Prof Chung said.

Professor Chiu Ming Ming’s effort in the CoolThink@JC project was also honoured at team level. The team contributed their professional knowledge of programming education to nurture students’ proactive use of technology for social good.

“If we can help more of us understand how Artificial Intelligence is shaping our lives, we can cultivate it to serve us instead.” Prof Chiu said.

Professor Kenneth Sin’s efforts in leading the Centre for Special Educational Needs and Inclusive Education were rewarded for his outstanding performance in administrative services.

“With dedication, passion, clear vision and collegial support, we are more willing to work together for the new initiatives and sustainability in community services and projects in inclusion.” Professor Sin said. “Towards the same goal we go, for excellence and glow.”

As a warden, Dr Yu Wai Bing won the outstanding performance in administrative services at team level with Student Affair Office.

As the President’s Awards illustrate, we continually strive to raise our standards. From work productivity to research impact, we seek to raise everything we do to the NEXT LEVEL.
