Prof Leung Chi Hung wins silver at international expo

2021-04-27

Prof Leung Chi Hung, Associate Professor at SEC and Co-Director of I-WELL, won a silver medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva.

His invention applies eye-tracking technology to drug treatment and rehabilitation. This helps rehabilitation staff evaluate how effective a certain drug treatment is, and how likely the drug rehabilitees are to relapse.

“Drug rehabilitees are asked to look at multiple sets of images and words. Some of them are related to drugs. The system records where the drug rehabilitees look, and for how long. This allows us to measure attentional bias in drug rehabilitees,” said Prof Leung.

“The measurement combines implicit measures with eye-tracking. This is the first project in Hong Kong to use computerized implicit psychological tasks with eye-tracking to assess drug abuse and rehabilitation progress,” he added.

Prof Leung's team also includes I-WELL’s Mr Jacky Chao and Mr Chan Hiu Fai, Officer-in-charge of Lutheran Church Cheer Lutheran Centre.

The International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva 2021 was held on 10-14 March. The exhibition is one of the most important knowledge and technology transfer events in the world, showcasing 1,000 new inventions from around the world.

As Prof Leung’s award illustrates, FEHD encourages innovative research. We strive to serve the broader community and take the impact of our research to the NEXT LEVEL.
