BA(HOD) student Chan Yuk Sum has been awarded the Easyknit Scholarship.
The scholarship aims to give recognition to students who have outstanding academic performance and are dedicated to serving the underprivileged in the community.
Throughout his degree, Yuk Sum worked part-time to pay his own tuition fees. Despite his busy schedule he also devoted himself to volunteer work.
As a member of the EdUHK Student Barber Service Team, Yuk Sum offered free-of-charge haircuts at elderly centres. “I might not have the power to solve their problems, but by such a simple thing as cutting their hair, we can bring happiness to the elderly and listen to their concerns and worries,” he said.
The studies in BA(HOD) also prepared Yuk Sum for his current career. He is celebrating after joining a three-year Management Trainee programme for a famous chained retailer in Hong Kong.
“After entering the workforce, I find it is even harder to balance work and life. However, the scholarship encourages me to keep helping people in need and contribute to the community.”
